Test event Day 2
“Britain’s Micky Becket (2, 4) leads the mens ILCA 7, with Pavlos Kontides (3, 5) discarding his early 20th to move into second with 10 pts.”
The sailing world recently witnessed a thrilling and highly anticipated event, the ILCA Test Event held in the beautiful city of Marseille. This prestigious competition served as a preview of the upcoming International Laser Class Association (ILCA) championships, showcasing the exceptional skills of sailors from around the globe. The Mediterranean waters of Marseille became a playground for elite athletes, pushing the boundaries of their abilities and providing spectators with an unforgettable display of sailing prowess.
Whole Devoti Team steps on the podium – ILCA Europeans 2023
The ILCA europeans just passed by full of intense emotions. The whole Devoti Team stepped on the podium conquering the first, second and third European titles. It has been a very tough regatta, “it has been mentally tough for all sailors due to a difficult relation between the sailors and the judges and race committees, one whole regatta has been canceled after being completed. Everybody was surprised and upset from the decision” states Pavlos Kontides who has won the bronze medal, and leaded the one hour strike before the fifth day of regattas.
Croatia has had a sensational performance with Tonci and Filip winning the European title and silver medal. Filip with great emotion states “after the UFD on the first race I felt the whole championship as if I had 100 kg of pressure on my back, however I have no words to describe how satisfied I am and how amazing is to share this podium with my team mates, this has always been our dream and our coach’s dream”. Tonci has won at Andora his fifth European title, “its amazing to share this podium with the whole team, this demonstrates our strength and dedication, I am very happy with my result”.
On the other hand we have to congratulate Ann Marie Rindome for her fifth place in the ILCA 6 class, Thanos Kifidis for the ILCA 6 Men European title and Rocco Wright for the bronze medal.
So many emotions to see how strong the Devoti Team is, and has shown to be, at the 2023 European Championship and Andora, Italy.
Congratulations to all of you! The season now goes on and our next meeting is at Palma de Mallorca for the Trofeo Princesa Sofia where all Olympic classes will be competing.
ILCA Europeans starting in two days.
The 2023 ILCA season has started now, first main goal for our athletes is starting this Sunday at Andora, Italy. There are 400 sailors between the classes, ILCA 7 and ILCA 6 women and men. “We are all reunited at Andora, beautiful place and wonderful food at the Ligurian coast. We had good winds for the training and the regatta is coming now close. We have with us Pavlos, Filip, Tonci, Finn, Ann Marie, and many many others. They are getting ready for the regatta, to who I wish all the best, but first and foremost I hope they have fun and enjoy a wonderful championship”. Declares Luca Devoti, who is present together with the ILCA guru, Chris Caldecott representing the Devoti Sailing team. Marcon from Marcon Yachting and Charterboat.eu are also present at the event for any support and assistance from DevotiSailing.
We have been in contact with Pavlos, the current European Champion, who states how he feels about the regatta. “Personally this is my first time here in Andora, we had a couple of days training with a wide variety of conditions and directions. This is kind of good, so we are aware of what we can expect for the championship. Generally blowing from the south almost every day, which can be pretty challenging. Today we had wind from north-east, which makes more tricky the technical adaptation. I have to say my new Devoti ILCA is really good, we have one more sailing day today, then we rest on Saturday and go on with the measurements, we will start Sunday with three days of qualifications and three of finals. The goal is all about being consistent in the variety of conditions and being above until the end.”
Tonci is also warming up for this super important event and states. “Here in Andora so far everything looks good, we had a great mix of conditions in the last three days, we are still preparing the last few things with the equipment. I feel that everything is going good, pretty much all is set, we just need to finish up with the registration and measurements, I personally feel ready for the race and hope again some strong results from the Devoti Team”.
Filip preparing all the last things needed for this europeans, has arrived to Andora with a strong bagage of the last races in Croatia, where he has demonstrated super strong results, not loosing the focus on any race, winning all of the races this year, the Malta nationals, Croatian nationals and Mornar Grand prix . “Yesterday we did our third session here in Andora, so far I really like this venue, it is very interesting for me. We had pretty strong wind in the beginning and then quite light, however for the championship I guess we will be having a mix of all conditions. I feel ready for that, looking forwards for it, it will be a very tricky venue. This is the first peak regatta of this season so it will be interesting to see how all top guys are ready for the season.”
Relaunching the D-one production
“Lets make the D-one great again, we will work hard for it and make this boats fly again through the international seas” – Luca Devoti
Some of you may already know the boat, the D-one has been designed by Phill Morrison and Luca Devoti.
Devoti-One is powered by a large 11,5 m2 fully battened main sail that has enough power to be hiking early but easy to keep control when it gets fresher. Downwind, using the 13,2 m2 gennaker, the boat is stable and easily driven with plentyof power to the highly manoeuvrable and lightweight hull.
The D-one class has started in 2010 with a great boom and loads of sailing passionate.
Lets have a quick throwback to 2011 D-one GodCup: Tom Slimgby “It’s a pure pleasure racing on this dinghy that blends the abilities of a hiking boat upwind with the speed and fun downwind.”
This boat has a very strong potential to have fun and be competitive. So we want to announce that we are back producing the boats from now.
We thank the D-one association which kept the fire lighted and the boat alive promoting with passion and our values this fantastic boat. Lets fly through the waves together now and get back on track the power this rocket deserves.
Croatian Champions, whole podium conquered again.
Filip Jurišić defended the title of Croatian champion in ILCA 7 ahead of the two-time silver Olympian Tonči Stipanović at the regatta last weekend in Split. Although only two regattas were held due to the light wind, Filip won his third championship title ahead of Tonci and Jonathan Vadnai, who finished consequently second and third.
“The fight for the title of Croatian champion is always fierce, especially between my friend Tonči and me. In Malta, at the end of the first month, I won the open championship of Malta, which we sailed in a fairly strong wind, and last weekend also the Croatian championship in a lighter wind” said Filip.
It is again an honour for us to se how podiums are completely conquered by the top worldwide sailors who trust us and our boats.

Whole podium conquered at the Spanish Nationals ILCA 6
The ILCA 6 class already has new Spanish champions after the fourth and final day closed today at the RCN in Torrevieja. The Andalusian Ana Moncada has taken the national title after sailing three new tests today, with which the planned regatta program was completed.
The equality was maximum and until the last test it has not been possible to know the names of the champions. Cristina Pujol started as a leader and in the first race signed a tenth that ended up being her discard, a regata in which Ana Moncada was 7th.
In the second regata, three places separated the two, with a 3rd for the Catalan and a 6th for the Andalusian, who with a 2nd in the next and last one against a 9th for Pujol gave the final blow to win the championship with five points of advantage. “It has been a tough race and full of lessons to continue growing and pushing for this season. I am very happy with the result because it reflects all the work I have been doing with my team”, declares Ana Moncada.
The overall women’s podium was made up of Ana Moncada, Cristina Pujol and Martina Reino.
We are honoured to see our Devoti ILCAS on this podium, and to see how this top sailors trust our quality!
